Accommodation and Travel

Accommodation: The workshop will be held in the Casa Marina in Galeria, a house that hosts environmental holidays for kids: http://casa.marina.pagesperso-orange.fr/cariboost1/ (the website is mainly oriented towards kids activities and all in French, but you can see some pictures and notice that the view from the conference room overlooks the bay!). The Casa Marina has a full capacity of 36 beds (mainly rooms of 2 x 2 bunk beds, and a couple of double rooms, no single rooms), there is a dining hall for lunches and dinners, and a separate conference room ideal for 20-40 people. The dining hall capacity is 40 people, and this will be considered as the maximum number for attendees, since we also want this meeting to keep a reasonable size for discussions. If we are more than 36 attending, some of us can rent guest houses in the same village (L’Auberge right next door to Casa Marina) or choose the nearby camping area.

If you are choosing an alternative accommodation option (hotel, auberge, camping), please let me know when you are set where you will be staying.

Travel: Incoming trips should be on Sunday 18/09 and outgoing trips on Friday 23/09.

It would be ideal if arrivals and departures were from Calvi airport or harbor. Below I detail some travel possibilities via Calvi. Other possibilities include, in order of preference for organizing issues:

- boats with SNCM (often on strikes..) or Corsica Ferries (safer bet) to Calvi or Ile Rousse

- boats or flights to Bastia. If you plan on arriving in Bastia, you will need to organize your trip to Calvi. The best (but slow) option is the train from Bastia to Calvi, a beautiful trip but you need to have a good read with you!

Flights to / from Calvi airport (examples):

Travel from Montpellier:

- INCOMING:     Flight from Marseille (9:00) to Calvi (10:00) - Air France

or                           Flight from Marseille (14:40) to Calvi (15:40) - Air France

- OUTGOING:     Flight from Calvi (7:00) to Marseille (8:00) - Air France

or                           Flight from Calvi (16:05) to Marseille (17:05) - Air France

Travel from Paris:

- INCOMING:     Flight from Paris-Orly (14:40) to Calvi (16:15) - Air France AF 7576

or                           Flight from Paris-Orly (13:15) to Calvi (14:50) - Air France AF 4274

- OUTGOING:     Flight from Calvi (15:35) to Paris-Orly (17:05) - Air France AF7579

or                           Flight from Calvi (7:00) to Paris-Orly (9:50) via Marseille (8:00 / 8:30) - Air France

From outside France, I would recommend to try and get flights to Paris or Marseille that would coincide with the four incoming/outcoming flights above. For example, from Edinburgh:

- INCOMING:     Flight from Edinburgh (06:10) to Paris Charles de Gaulle (9:20) then from Paris-Orly (need to take a bus in between the two airports) to Calvi with the 13:15 or 14:40 flights.

- OUTGOING: Flight from Calvi (15:35) to Paris-Orly (17:05) then from Paris Charles de Gaulle (20:25) to Edinburgh (21:30).

Or another example from Sweden:

- INCOMING:     Flight from Stockholm (06:50) to Paris Charles de Gaulle (9:30) then from Paris-Orly (need to take a bus in between the two airports) to Calvi with the 13:15 or 14:40 flights.

- OUTGOING: Flight from Calvi (15:35) to Paris-Orly (17:05) then from Paris Charles de Gaulle (7:35) to Stockholm (10:05) the next morning.

It would be great if people coming from the same country exchanged their good ideas about travelling and synchronized their arrivals.
